Kyrö Distillery releases whisky finished in a sauna
Finnish distillery Kyrö has released Sauna Stories No.1 — the ‘world’s first’ sauna-finished whisky.
In celebration of Kyrö’s 10th anniversary, the distillery says “Kyrö Sauna Stories No1 is the first of many in a series of whiskies finished in the warm embrace of a Finnish sauna,” in what the distillery calls “the most relaxed rye whiskey in the world.”
The new limited edition malted rye whisky was finished in Planteray rum casks inside a purpose-built sauna. The barrels were gently heated with excess heat from the distillation process, reaching temperatures of up to 50°C.
According to the distillery, when the whisky is placed in the sauna, it begins to sweat then “relax”, allowing the flavours “to begin to harmonise.”
Sauna Stories No1 is a limited-edition product and only 1908 bottles will be released.
