Distilled on 16th June 1997, the Speyside spirit was racked and left to mature in a first-fill Caribbean rum barrel for over a quarter of a century.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eBut despite cask no. 7777 being a full-size rum barrel that was filled to the brim, when it came time for bottling, this single cask yielded just 87 bottles.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe huge, unexpected loss of liquid during maturation gave extra headspace in the barrel, increasing the surface area to liquid ratio, and intensifying the Caribbean rum influence even further. The result is an insanely rum-forward dram of \u003cem\u003e\u003cstrong\u003ecoconut cream\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e, \u003cem\u003e\u003cstrong\u003epineapple pastry\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e and \u003cem\u003e\u003cstrong\u003efloral chamomile\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e, with a finish \u003cem\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eperfectly full and rounded\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e at 51.9% ABV.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eWe may never know the reason for the huge spirit loss, but our favourite theory is that it was so delicious, the angels decided to take much more than their fair share.
