Not Glengoyne, though. They’ve redefined what’s possible, and gone for \u003cem\u003etwenty times\u003c\/em\u003e that: a full six-year secondary maturation in this incredible wood.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eNot a huge surprise, then, that it wiped the floor with the competition at the latest International Spirits Challenge, beating out 98 other bottles to win the ‘Best Single Malt between 13 and 20 years old’ category trophy \u003cem\u003eand\u003c\/em\u003e picking up a Double Gold medal.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThere’s no doubt about why it won: the six-year secondary maturation in Mizunara (on top of an initial ten years in Oloroso) delivers \u003cem\u003e\u003cstrong\u003ecloves\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e, \u003cem\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eground ginger\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e, \u003cem\u003e\u003cstrong\u003ebrown bread \u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/em\u003eand \u003cem\u003e\u003cstrong\u003ebaked banana\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e. Its golden colour is entirely natural too, bottled with no chill filtration or added colour at 53.4% ABV. This a dram to really sit with, as subtle \u003cem\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eslivers of sultana\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e linger on and a \u003cem\u003e\u003cstrong\u003enutty creaminess\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e rounds things out nicely.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eAs you can imagine with a rare oak like this, there’s limited stock available worldwide.
