Now we’ve got our hands on their oldest barrel released to date.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eAged 14 years in a single 300-litre French Oak Tawny cask, the same cask style that won World’s Best Single Malt Whisky, it’s bottled at Sullivan’s Cove’s trademark 47.5% ABV, non-chill filtered and natural colour.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e“Impeccable, impeccable structure. This is remarkable, in that for much of global brandy production, the cask is to be held at bay, ensuring the eau-de-vie has nothing to shadow its delicacy. In this case however, there is a bold presence of French Oak: tea, cooking spices, chicory. And the pre-fill, too: Tawny in all of its pruney, treacly glory. Despite the cask presence, the eau-de-vie (of Pinot Noir origins) certainly ain’t no wallflower but front and centre: blackberry, raspberry, rose, mint and violet. That all of these bold characters can come together in such balance and harmony is a feat.
