There's a reason why Starward is shining so brightly in the whisky galaxy right now — it’s really, really good. And thanks to our years-long relationship, we got to sit down with the distillery and pick from their very best casks.

After delivering two brilliant whiskies which focused on the intricacies of charred red wine casks, we’re going back to the original classic that made Starward’s name, but in single cask, natural cask strength form. Starward Fresh Red Wine Single Cask has been matured in 225L American oak red wine barriques from the Barossa Valley.

While others in the local industry were focusing on ex-Bourbon and Fortified casks, it was Starward that led the charge into creating a new product line that was uniquely Australian, making the decision to mature their spirit in ex-Australian Red Wine casks from the world-famous Barossa region. Many of these casks housed the big-bodied rich reds that the region is famous for, like Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon. Once emptied, they’re sent to Starward where they’re inspected thoroughly before being filled with the distillery’s rich malt and fruit driven spirit, straight off the stills, and within the week.

Master Blender Jarrad Huckshold’s dubbed this exclusive Single Cask, the crescendo of our red wine cask series, as “the pinnacle” of Starward’s signature red wine style. Starward Fresh Red Wine Single Cask showcases the very best of the distillery in full force.

Being Single Cask and above 55%, these fresh American oak Red Wine barriques really bring together all the things we love about Starward. Bright citrus notes burst on the nose along with notes of strawberries, plums, raspberry cheesecake and lashings of oozing toffee. Ripe-red apples and blueberries coat the tongue before fresh-out-of-the-oven shortbread and creamy oak settle on the palate and eases into a lingering finish of white chocolate and red wine notes.

This is Starward at its highest point, showcasing everything that’s made them one of Australia’s biggest selling Single Malts, and most beloved distilleries.
