Glenmorangie 13 Year Old Moscatel Cask, Created Exclusively for The Whisky Club

When you’re one of the biggest names in the business, and your Head Whiskymaker is seven times World’s Best Master Distiller, Dr Bill Lumsden, you can be pretty choosy about who you collaborate with.

And for Glenmorangie and Dr Bill Lumsden, the answer is generally ‘nobody’.

But thanks to our longstanding friendship with the distillery and Dr Bill, they’ve put together an incredible world-first whisky, just for Members of the Club: Glenmorangie 13 Year Old Moscatel Cask.

Originally laid down as a pilot batch of Moscatel dessert wine casks filled for a secondary maturation to evolve and improve the famed Nectar d’Or recipe, the majority of the liquid in this bottle was distilled in 2009, putting it close to actually being 16 years old. It was also the first time the distillery had ever filled Moscatel dessert wine casks, making this the first time Moscatel-matured Glenmo has ever been released. Of course bottled without chill filtration or any added colour at an elegant 48.2% ABV.

The results are mind-blowing. Glenmorangie’s trademark full-flavoured elegance is on full show, with the lengthy, seven year secondary Moscatel maturation adding flavours of strawberry creams, choc orange, Anzac biscuit, creamy vanilla custard, baked apples and dark spice, plus some lovely light florals on the nose that only Moscatel casks can deliver.
