Overview
This is undoubtedly the best yet in the Club’s most sought-after whisky series – the Lagavulin Offerman Editions.
Bottled at 46% ABV, non-chill filtered and natural in colour, this weighty whisky follows in the footsteps of its predecessors, having bagged Double Gold at the San Fran World Spirits Competition just like every edition thus far. Previous editions sold out immediately and now fetch anywhere up to 5 times their original retail price at auction as collectors and connoisseurs alike seek out the last remaining bottles. Edition #4 is set to follow suit, as it uniquely celebrates a marriage of flavours from islands at opposite ends of the Atlantic marking the first Lagavulin finished in Caribbean Rum Casks in the distillery’s 200 year history.
The first in the intensely smoky Offerman range to introduce a character-defining sweetness, this single malt matured for 11 years in ex-Bourbon and ex-Sherry casks, followed by an 8-month finish in ex-Caribbean rum casks. The result is a rare combination of classic Islay Single Malt and the exotic sweetness of Caribbean rum. With subtle notes of lemon meringue, honey, vanilla, toffee, golden cinnamon and brine, this whisky brings together a delightfully unusual blend of smoky and sweet.
As American actor Nick Offerman (aka Ron Swanson from Parks & Recreation) himself puts it: “The distinctive combination of smoky and sweet… an outdoorsy bonfire aroma… the subtle notes of lemon meringue that embody the tropical flavours of the Caribbean islands. It’s essentially me in liquid form.”
Why Nick Offerman? Nick has been a keen lover and ambassador of Lagavulin for many years, and together Nick and Lagavulin have been entertaining the world with these “Tales of Whisky”. These limited-run Offerman Editions are each different, highly collectible – and always delicious.
For this new edition, Offerman follows his soft spot for adventures at sea. The result is the most exotic Lagavulin in history, and September 2024 was your chance to get the official release in Australia at just $175 a bottle (a few eager bottles have already snuck into the country and are selling for up to $300 each)!

Lagavulin’s History
Illicit distillation was taking place on the site in the scenic Lagavulin Bay from the mid-1700s, but it was farmer John Johnston who legally founded Lagavulin in 1816. Located on the south coast of Islay (right between Laphroaig and Ardbeg distilleries and a short distance from Port Ellen), the distillery perfectly takes advantage of its coastal location, allowing the sea air to work its magic on the spirit as it rests in the barrels.
