Overview
It’s the oldest Glenfarclas ever.
At a staggering 70 years of age, this isn’t just the oldest Glenfarclas ever, it’s one of the oldest whiskies ever released, full stop.
And the first three bottles of this museum-piece malt in Australia are coming straight to the Club. This is a chance for three lucky Members to get their hands on an incredible piece of whisky history.
Laid down on 20 November 1953, this is like if you turned the philosophy behind Glenfarclas’s legendary Family Casks up to 70: a massive age-statement dram that dates all the way back to the earliest days of Chairman George S Grant’s time at the helm of the company – and he’s arguably the man most responsible for making Glenfarclas what it is today.
The result is whisky heaven, and though it sounds strange to say it, incredible value for a whisky this old. The number of casks that make it to 70 years and beyond is vanishingly small, as evaporation, time and thirsty warehouse staff take their toll on all but the most exceptional casks. Accordingly, you’ll see exponential price rises as the years rack up: Speyside neighbours The Macallan ($265,000 TIME : SPACE Collection), Glenrothes ($77,000, Glenrothes The 51) and Balvenie ($223,000, The Balvenie Sixty) are all asking a whole lot more for drams around this age and quality.
Given when it was laid down, this will take you straight back to the glory days of Scotch. Hand-turned, floor-malted barley distilled through Glenfarclas’s famed direct-fired stills then matured in first-fill Sherry for seven decades gives notes of fruit compote, honeyed malt and a delicate thread of Speyside peat on the nose, before an awesomely indulgent, full-bodied palate of treacle toffee and Sherry-soaked fruits. This is Glenfarclas to its core.
There are only 262 bottles worldwide, and only a handful are coming to Australia. This is a momentous single malt, and if you want to be the first in Australia to get it, you’ll need to be a Member of the Club – sign up FREE today to get access to the world’s finest whiskies.
