Chivas Regal Crystalgold: Scotch industry’s innovation launches in Australia exclusively at The Whisky Club

September 23, 2025

Chivas Regal Crystalgold might very well be the Scotch industry’s biggest innovation in decades. And Whisky Club Members will be the very first Aussie whisky lovers to taste. But what exactly is it?

When Chivas Regal Crystalgold, a collaboration between Chivas Regal and Ferrari, made its way into the whisky lab at Club HQ, it set off a lot of discussion and a wee bit of debate. Is it whisky? Where’s the line between traditional whisky making and innovation? The consensus? Try it for yourself and see what you think.

Chivas Regal Crystalgold is crystal clear – you’d easily mistake it for a glass of water. Until you try it. Chivas Regal Crystalgold looks like water but smells and tastes like the liquid we’re all here for.

Using charcoal filtration, this first-fill Bourbon matured spirit has had every trace of colour removed, leaving behind a crystal-clear liquid that tastes like a Scotch with notes of “sweet apple pie, creamy butterscotch, hints of orange, juicy pears and warming spice.”

“We’ve always believed that innovation should enhance tradition, not erase it and Chivas Regal Crystalgold is the epitome of that. It pushes the boundaries of what’s possible in blending,” said Sandy Hyslop, Master Blender at Chivas Regal. “Through years of experimentation, we have perfected a filtration process that removes colour while retaining flavour for a truly unique drinking experience. Our goal with Chivas Regal Crystalgold wasn’t just to innovate, it was to preserve everything people love about an oak-aged spirit, while presenting it in a way you’ve never seen from us before. The clarity is striking, but the flavour is unmistakably ours.”

But you’ve still got questions, right? Let’s make it…crystal clear…

What is Chivas Regal Crystalgold?

Chivas Regal Crystalgold, an oak-aged, golden-tasting spirit that’s been filtered to a crystal clear liquid.

How was Chivas Regal Crystalgold made?

First-fill Bourbon matured spirit went through a charcoal filtered process. After that, the liquid has been blended with a small amount of unaged Scottish spirit.

What does Chivas Regal Crystalgold taste like?

With notes of “Sweet apple pie, creamy butterscotch and warming spices with hints of orange and sweet red apple,” It tastes just like whisky!

Is Chivas Regal Crystalgold Scotch?

Although it tastes like it, Chivas Regal Crystalgold is not a Scotch whisky – or a whisky. And that’s because it’s had all its colour removed by charcoal filtration. And by law, whisky must retain the colour given to it by maturation.

Is Chivas Regal Crystalgold really the first of its kind?

Some Aussie distilleries – including Starward, with its New World Projects: Project X release – have experimented with tiny-batch experiments of this nature in the past; but this is the first time it’s had the full weight of an outfit like Chivas Regal behind it.
