To celebrate its partnership with The Open, golf’s original Championship, Loch Lomond and Master Blender Michael Henry have crafted The Open Special Edition 2026: a single malt built for celebrating golf, whisky, and all the things that make The Open exceptional (mostly golf, and whisky).
The whisky started its life in Loch Lomond’s unique straight-neck stills, a piece of kit unique to the distillery that shapes the fruit-forward, honeyed style the distillery is beloved for. From there it matured in American oak, soaking up more layers of fruit, honey and roasted nuts, before a minimum of six months finishing in first-fill Argentinian Malbec wine casks.
Those casks come from Argentina’s Mendoza region – widely considered home to the world’s benchmark Malbec – and the influence shows: there’s dark berries, redcurrant, vanilla, honey, peach syrup, crisp apple, toffee and a gentle line of spice to finish.
The whisky has already picked up hardware too, taking home a Gold medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition. Loch Lomond’s annual The Open limited editions are super sought-after, and in Australia, 2026’s epic edition landed exclusively at The Whisky Club.
For those wanting a great gift or golf fans wanting the full clubhouse set, it comes as a gift boxed glass-pack bundle with two engraved Loch Lomond tumblers alongside the bottle. Non-chill filtered, 46% ABV, and all natural colour, it's perfect for toasting a great round on the course, or just admiring on the trophy shelf.
