A 49-year-old single malt whisky from The Dalmore has sold at Sotheby's for £93,750 – around $179,800

The Dalmore Luminary No.2 The Rare is the second release in The Luminary Series, a unique three-part partnership between the distillery and V&A Dundee.

The whisky was housed in an 80kg glass sculpture co-created with Zaha Hadid Architects,

The Rare whisky was created in a collaboration between Leung and The Dalmore’s master whisky makers Gregg Glass and Richard Paterson OBE.  Matured in American white oak ex-Bourbon casks, The Rare was finished with a combination of rare Port Colheita 1963, 30 year old Apostoles Sherry and select Bourbon, then completed in a 1951 virgin oak hybrid cask, which was air-dried and hand-toasted by Gregg Glass.

Only three decanters and two glass sculptures of The Rare will ever be made. All proceeds will be donated to Scotland's design museum.

The Whisky Club released The Dalmore Luminary No.1 back in November 2022. It was the first time, whisky lovers in Australia had the chance to enjoy a luxury Dalmore first edition and the entire allocation was exclusively through The Whisky Club.
