Glenglassaugh’s $70,000 Distillery Record
Glenglassaugh Coalescence of the Coast 55 Year Old went under the hammer for a whopping £37,500* (AUD $72260.00) recently, a record price for the distillery.
The one-of-a-kind expression was created by Master Blender Dr Rachel Barrie to raise funds for The Distillers’ Charity, to help disadvantaged young people in Scotland.
Glenglassaugh Coalescence of the Coast 55 Year Old is a marriage of three individual casks of Glenglassaugh filled in 1963, 1965 and 1967.
The whisky is held in a custom crystal decanter and hand-crafted wooden box inspired by the coastal location of the distillery.
“The elixir within this bespoke bottle of Glenglassaugh is a precise composition which captures Glenglassaugh at its quintessential peak,” says Barrie, “with seductive cassis, sublime mandarin peel and soft aromatic sherry in a caress of silken oak.
“One sip awakens the senses with mesmerising waves of luscious black cherry, ripe mango and tropical flora carried on an endless ocean breeze. To taste Glenglassaugh Single Malt is to experience the evocative coastal influence of Sandend Bay.”
On behalf of the Club, we’ll happily take the bottle off the lucky bidder’s hands. We promise we’ll share…
