Loch Lomond to open new distillery
The Loch Lomond Group has received the green light to build a new multi-million-pound distillery and visitor centre in Luss, Scotland.
The new facility, set to open this year, will house the full range of the group’s award-wining brands as well as premium food, guided tours and a discovery centre.
The new site will sit on the banks of Loch Lomond in the popular village of Luss and will be repurposed from the old Luss smokehouse.
“This significant multi-million-pound investment in a new distillery and visitor experience marks another major milestone for The Loch Lomond Group,” says Colin Matthews, Founder and CEO of Loch Lomond Group.
“The investment comes despite the challenges facing our industry and it reflects our confidence in the local community and the long-term resilience of Scotch whisky and distilling in Scotland. “The successful completion of this new project in Luss will allow us to share the rich heritage and natural beauty of the area which inspires all our spirits, with visitors from around the world.”
The developments follows a golden year for the group. In 2024, Loch Lomond Whiskies was awarded he highly coveted Scotch Whisky Producer of the Year trophy at 2024's International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC), bringing the group’s award win tally to more than 100 in the previous 12 months.
The 2024 Scotch Whisky Producer of the Year trophy followed multiple IWSC category wins for Loch Lomond Whiskies, with its 12 Year Old Inchmurrin single malt winning Best in Class for Scotch Whisky Under 15 Years Old.
According to the IWSR 2023 Scotch Whisky report, a leading global drinks data and analytics provider, Loch Lomond is the world’s fastest-growing top 25 malt whisky brand.
“We’ve always been bold in our approach to whisky-making. While we respect tradition, we’re not afraid to push boundaries,” Michael Henry, Master Blender at Loch Lomond Group said. “
”The recognition we’re receiving from top spirits experts only reinforces our belief that we’re on the right path as one of the most exciting distillers around. We are looking forward to continuing this into 2025 and beyond.”
The Whisky Club has a long relationship with the group. Across Glen Scotia and Loch Lomond, together we have released 14 whiskies, including 2024’s hugely popular Glen Scotia 2013 Bordeaux Single Cask.
It’s certainly an exciting time ahead and we can't wait to see the future whiskies from this new venture!
