Overview
As any whisky geek will happily tell you, these original Sherry bombs from yesteryear are becoming harder to come by. And in the form of a single cask from Islay’s original and first distillery? Scarcer than hen’s teeth.
Bowmore is a name that's always been synonymous with prestige; from the late Queen Elizabeth II making Bowmore her first ever distillery visit back in 1980, through to an official Aston Martin collaboration release in 2020, Bowmore’s reputation as high-end whiskymakers has remained consistent.
So it was without a moment’s thought that we snapped up 24 bottles of the Bowmore 1997 26 Year Old Single Cask #2410, to bring exclusively to Club Members in Australia.
This old boy is an unhurried, thick, sherried collector’s item. A natural cask strength bottling of 55.5% ABV, cask #2410 is a full Oloroso Sherry Cask maturation; serving sticky red dates and gingerbread by the truckload, along with a healthy side of charred spice. In fact, this thunderous drop is so Sherried that it came out of its cask naturally with the colour of a dark leather sofa – testament to its long years of maturation in a proper old Oloroso cask. Bowmore have also used non-chill filtration when bottling this single cask, to nurture that thick palate of flavour.
The last Sherried whiskies of this calibre that you’ll have seen in recent years include the Lagavulin 26 Year Old (a $2,950 release from Bowmore’s Islay neighbour) and The GlenDronach 1993 Oloroso 28YO Single Cask #4194; both flew off the shelves. Don’t miss your chance on this one: available to Club Members from January 10, on a first-come, first-served basis.
