Overview
Each whiskey in the famous Spot series is a classic example of what makes true Irish single pot still whiskey special. The Yellow Spot is unique to Irish whiskey with its full 12-year maturation in ex-Bourbon barrels, Sherry butts and Malaga casks. The addition of Malaga lends distinctive notes of sweet honey and fresh peaches, creating a lightly spiced, sweet twist on the Spot series.
The name is an homage to the distillery’s past – the various colours refer to the historic practice of marking the whiskey barrels with their prospective colours according to its ageing potential. For easy, visible categorisation, 8-year-old whiskey was received a dab of blue, 10-year-old a green daub, and the 12-year-old received a spot of yellow.
Yellow Spot was finally re-released in limited amounts in May 2010 after a long hiatus that began in the 1950s. Now renowned the world over, only a limited number of bottles are released each year and even fewer are allocated to Australia… but luckily we secured some just for Club Members for St Patrick’s Day.
