Overview

The GlenDronach Traditionally Peated finally answers a question that’s been on our lips for years: what happens when you take GlenDronach’s trademark big, oily spirit, apply some heavy peat and mature in signature GD Sherried style?

Thankfully we now have the answer, as GlenDronach’s Master Blender Dr. Rachel Barrie has honoured the distillery’s whisky-making heritage and created The GlenDronach Traditionally Peated. Made with the same principles laid down nearly two hundred years ago by GlenDronach’s founder, James Allardice, when peat was a commonly used fuel source. Being both cheap and plentiful, it was traditional practice in the Highlands to burn it in the kiln towards the end of the barley malting, infusing a rich, warm, earthy smokiness on the whisky.

Full of Highland character, The GlenDronach Traditionally Peated is peated to those traditional levels and of course has all the full-bodied richness you’d expect from The GlenDronach. Bottled at a meaty 48%ABV, this big, robust malt is a rare opportunity to savour the mighty GlenDronach’s trademark heavy, oily spirit, overlaid with rich Highland peat. And of course, matured in signature GD style in only the finest Pedro Ximénez Sherry, Oloroso Sherry and Port casks… yes, this is possibly the ultimate Sweet and Peat!

Perfectly balanced and delightfully complex, you’ll find notes of Highland toffee and treacle melded with dark honey, burnt orange, cloves and rich dark fruit. And of course, it’s non chill-filtered and the colour is natural - drawn from the slow maturation in Spanish oak casks.
