Ardbeg Smokiverse

Fine, fruity, and freaking delicious | Ardbeg x The Club | Exclusive partners for the most limited Ardbeg Day release in years – a geeky experiment in high gravity brewing.

United Kingdom

Colour Faded gold

Nose A burst of smoked tropical fruits, grilled pineapple, lemon drops and woodfired sourdough.

Palate Rich and creamy texture with equal parts soot and spice, grapefruit bubblegum, passionfruit, clove, muscovado sugar, smouldering ash and leather.

Overview

We’re bringing this exclusively to Club Members in Australia so you can have it in your glass on 31 May – which fans of Islay’s cult distillery will know as Ardbeg Day.

Ardbeg has maintained its hefty malted backbone and big peat hit while adding more grist and less water in the mash tun during the brewing process (aka high gravity brewing). The outcome is ester heaven, and these fruity flavour compounds have then been dreamily matured in 100% heavily-charred, ex-Bourbon casks. Captured without chill filtration at 48.3% ABV, that fruity shift in the spirit’s profile shines through into a haze of smoky brilliance.

This full renovation on Ardbeg’s usual distilling is a tiny limited release – but it's so moreish that we’re already praying for a future second edition. The Club partnered with Ardbeg as the exclusive retailer of Smokiverse in Australia.

Ardbeg's History

The south coast of Islay is hallowed ground for peat lovers, with the holy trinity of Laphroaig, Lagavulin and Ardbeg distilleries all within a stone's throw of each other. Despite having been making whisky since 1798, it was 1815 when John McDougall was granted a licence, making the distillery a legitimate operation. The name Ardbeg comes from the Gaelic word ‘ad bheag’, meaning small hill.
